Shop break-in

2 Attachment(s)
My shop was broken into over the weekend. The dogs chased them away before they cleaned out, but they did get some good stuff. Grinders, four or five rivet guns, milling machine tooling, hand tools, etc. I can live with that stuff, but they got my Milwaukee planishing hammer. They got just the head (model 181) but missed the hoops and the new upper die set. I expect to have some difficulty with the insurance company about value. I'm hoping to recover it, but don't expect to. I think it was street people that will have no idea what it is. In the past a number of Milwaukee's have been sold on eBay for prices ranging from $2,700 to $3,500. Does anyone know how to get copies of those sold ads? I would like to hear from anyone (via PM) that has a Milwaukee they would sell. Also, any ideas on how to deal with the insurance company on value?

Best way to establish value is to replace the item - if you can afford it.

If you don't replace it, the typical ploy is to depreciate the value based on some guideline/method that they won't want to disclose.

Good luck !

1. Log in on ebay
2. Go to bottom of page and click 'classic site'
3. Enter item and click on 'advanced'
4. Click on 'sold listings'

It really pisses you off when you bust your arse to put your tools and machinery together and lowlife thinks it is their god given right to break in and steal your working tools

They should bring back the OLD day methods when caught stealing, cut your bloody fingers off.
Yes Low lifes who possibly get paid by the government to stay home, sleep in then rob you,
Even though maybe you can get new equipment from insurance, that feeling of being violated when your place has been broken into, can't replace all those loved tools you had as well as the sought after ones you can no longer get.
I hope all goes well with you Norm, and hope you can get most of your gear back, I feel for you. It's definitely not nice.
