Member Map

Hey guys,

We get a lot of new members here, and unless you look through every intro and take notes of where people live, there's no way to know who is actually nearby. That's why I think a member map would be an excellent tool to add. It would allow you to invite people easier to meets they may not have noticed are happening in the area, or car shows, or ???

That is just one I found quickly that uses Google Maps, but there are probably others as well that are available and free.

What do you think?

I think its a great idea, but I saw one on another board not to long ago what was totally supported by itself (no installing anything) I'll try to find it later tonight when I have a chance.

I like it, I know Tony Sanchez and Jim Stabe are somewhat close.

I think its a "must have" idea. For the cars shows alone, ;)

Now that's a great idea! I've often wondered if there are members who joined here before me who live and work nearby.

As part of the registration process we ask people to give us there location, city and state or similar for other countries. The map software that I have seen will get you down to the house. From a security point of view I don't want that, city and state is fine with me. Some people have a problem giving that information.

This has been tried on other site without much success, hard to get people to fill out the information. It is hard enough to keep the site clean without having something like a map showing where everyone lives. I agree that it is nice to know who is in the area but I don't think it is a good idea to have it as part of the site because of security concerns. Over time you get to know the people that live close to you.

I would think that if a guy were interested in finding those close to him could make a post saying Hey all, "who is near San Andreas ca" and the ones that didn't mind could chime in.
perhaps even a section for this would be OK?
just my 2 cents
mark
