hello from christchurch,new zealand

hello gentlemen, my name is jason, i'm a trade qualified fabricator,
working at a boilermakers shop here in christchurch.
my passion is restoring and customising motorcycles, i have a single car garage attached to my flat
set up as a wee machine shop,
got a lathe, milling machine, couple of welders, and my bikes of course.
over the past couple of years i've become really interested in the art of shaping sheet metal,
i'm hoping to get some guidance in making decisions in purchasing the right equipment
as well as techniques of course.
i've been in the engineering trade for 20 years but never involved much with sheet metal so i have a lot to learn.

John Britten was from Christchurch, one of the men whose work has always inspired me. I think Burt was from Invercargill. If things go according to plan I hope to visit both places next January. I remember Britten saying something to the effect of "We can do anything, and we can do it in our own back yard." This was a comment he made about the Kiwi attitude which was a result of its location. I felt the same way living on the high plains of Wyoming. Anyway, welcome to the forum Jason.

Hi Jason - some very clever folk around Christchurch. Auto Restorations (Gavin Bain and Co) are based there and yes, John Britten was from there. In fact per capita, there is probably more interesting auto stuff going on in the South Island than in the North Island. Rod Tempero in I think Oamaru, Barney Tansley in Arrowtown. No doubt many others who are more underground. Some great people posting on here and giving their time and experience.
