Larry, at a guess, it would be because he uses a vacuum table and didn’t want the added expense or hassle of gluing the slabs to a sacrificial piece. I knew that’s how I would be getting them and had accepted I’d have to jigsaw them out and do a bit of hand finishing. There’s only about 1/8” left on the bottom anyway.
