Default Ripping sanding belts.

I reconfigured my hand held belt sander to use 18” belts instead of the 30” ones.
The belts are to be 1” wide and 18” around. I did not find that size at the store. I did find 3’’ wide by 18” though. All I had to do is cut them into 1” wide pieces. That would cost $1 per each.
I marked a short line 1” in from the edge on the smooth side. Using a box cutter I cut a slit in the belt about 1 1/2” long. Holding the 1” wide portion of the belt in between my left hand fingers and the 2” wide part in my right hand fingers I ripped the belt apart being careful to stop before the tape splice. I used the box knife to cut the tape joint.
The result was a 1” wide piece. It was not necessary to cut the whole belt.
Just rip it.
