Here is the thread. We spent days moving the threads from the old site to this one manually .

Looks like a lot of the pictures are missing for some reason.

http://allmetalshaping.com/showthread.php?t=38

I had the pictures saved to my album but I guess when the site was closed the pictures went with them.

Had a monster squall come out of the west and blow about 1/3 of a Norway maple on to my 3 phase power line. It almost pulled the feed mast off my building. It pulled the wall apart on one side and around the corner pulled out 4” lag bolts that were in studs like they were smooth nails. I pulled the mast back with a come-along and fabricated a new mast mount and have nearly finished the wood work. I was pretty pissed at first but realized I could have done a lot worse, I could have had live wires dancing around in the driveway below and no power for a few days --- after the storm the lighting company had 10000 customers without power !

Oh yeah, I guess you meant what have I been doing with sheet metal work. Not much but I did finish a shifter cover for a Hurst super shifter in a first generation Camero last week. Nothing too fancy because it gets covered with carpet anyway. ~ John Buchtenkirch

John, if you call that nothing too fancy, I had better go back to the shop and put in some more overtime, looks great!

Hi John,

Sorry about your damage. If I may ask, how many pieces did you make that cover out of?? Nice job

Thanks for the compliments guys. I made it in 2 pieces, the sort of box around the shifter and another piece in front of that. The part probably looks better than it really is because I aluminum oxide blasted it. When I do parts that have to be plated that’s when I turn it up 2 or 3 notches for hopefully my best work, this job was more fun or relaxing for me because it didn’t have to be perfect, nice is good enough for a floorboard that will be undercoated on one side and covered with possibly sound deadener and a carpet on the other side. I gave the customer (a body shop owner by the way) what he needed, any more would have been needless and an unfair financial drain on him. ~ John Buchtenkirch

I made 2 fenders for a car dollie. I traded them for the parkerizing on my tooling.
I used my new beading dies in my P-9 worked great.
I prestretched them on my E-wheel then beaded the sides and finished the ends of the beads by hand
sbeading die 061.jpg
5/8 lip on the front edge and used the shrinker to bring it around to the radius I needed

the sides are 14 gage I used a 5/8 ball bearing for the beading and my new adjustable lower

Did you clamp a piece of angle iron to the bottom of the piece of sheet metal for your lower round guide to follow?

I clamped a 6" wide flat bar to the sheet metal at the desired angle and used my back fence

I haven't been adding to much to the site lately... Had my head down workin' hard on the new truck..
The metal shaping part is I shaved the door handles and repaired the lower door skins
