Next, I marked and cut the piece out.
There is about a 1" drop down at the very back edge of the filler panel where it meets the trunk floor. Since this part of the buck will rest on the trunk floor, the back edge of the buck needs to be an inch lower so I cut a strip along the back edge off and reattached it below the rest of the piece with some screws.

The rear filler panel will come up and forward at a 60 degree angle so I used a plane to shape the back edge of the buck.
After cleaning it up and fitting the sides I test fit the piece and it looks good.

Next step is to start setting up the back bone. I was able to do some rough clearance cuts and set it up. The flash on my camera must have washed out the laser line in this picture but I'm using positions on the original sheet metal and transferring them to the backbone to use as a baseline. Any crown or new shape will be at or above this line once it's plotted out.

It took a lot of time to get the longitudinal template right. I think it's what I want. It's hard to tell with so little of the buck there but I'll go ahead with it. The curve looks good and the 60 degree rear face looks right.

I went ahead and cut the back bone, cleaned it up and got it in the car. Once I start getting the stations in I'll have a better idea of how it will look. I think I have the shape I want. I'm concerned about height. There are some parts of the quarters that I can't cut off yet that would help me get a better look at it overall.

I got the frame specs for the donor car today. I'll be putting in some time figuring out how to merge the two together in a couple weeks. I'm still concerned about front track width but I'll figure it out later. In the meantime, I need to finish the buck for the rear body section.
Here's the CTS specs This is the 49 frame. Not much information here but I can get anything else I might need directly off the frame

I haven't had too much time this week but I managed to get some work done over the weekend. When I started the rear body buck I knew that the trunk floor needed some work. The putz that I bought the car from tossed the 200 pound Hydramatic transmission into the trunk and shipped the car like that. It beat the floor down so far that it dented the gas tank which originally had about an inch and a half clearance. I was going to replace it later but decided to do it now. I didn't want to take measurements from a damaged surface then risk having everything move when I cut the old floor out.
I dropped the center of the new floor down an inch. As large as this trunk and deck lid will be, it won't be very deep so every inch counts. I don't anticipate stuffing it full of golf clubs or dead bodies but it should at least be serviceable. I was going to start trimming and tacking it in but ran out of MIG wire at 10PM on Saturday so that didn't happen. I'll pick some up tomorrow.
