Default Making a corner out of one piece

I need to make a corner patch for a floor board patch.
I've tried to get the stretch and shrink with my stump and blocking hammer but I can't quite stretch/shrink deep enough. This corners "walls" are about 2 inches deep, with a flange on top.

Should I use a tucking fork or perhaps deepen the horseshoe on my stump?

Here's a picture of the area (on right), and the patch I made for the one on left.

Thanks Will

What do you think about that hole on the right side? It's basically the corner of a box that's 2" deep. I'm trying to make it out of 1 piece if possible.

If it was me I would block it out. I would make a paper pattern highlight the various detail on the pattern, then transfer that to metal. Cut your blank oversize by at least 3 or 4 inches all around. Then using a blocking hammer and a sandbag I would block it until I got the rough shape and refine it with various dollies, or bench heads until I got it to the correct shape. If you make some profiles of the original shape with aluminum or mdf you could use them to check your progress.

Do a search for Peter Tommasini's posts here. He is the Master and has gone into a lot of detail with questions similar to yours.

Thanks Chris, I ended up just diving in and hammering to my heart's content and then some.

It won't win any beauty awards but it'll do the trick. Still have welding, grinding and to fill a gap or so (really wasn't an easy piece to make super accurately).

Just call me patch Adams

Lookin' good there Rob. Nice choice in your purchased hammer and good thinking on your 'home made' hammer. Call / come see me (with Clint ?), I have some more hammers I'll give to you. I am enthused that some one so young is showing so much interest along with a great attitude and talent.

Will you are too kind. I'd love to hang out soon. I'm always thinking of shapes I can make to learn and be challenged. I'd love to help Clint along with his projects, as well as any you might have. I'm going to come up with some ideas, I'll bring down some sheet and we can get busy making scrap what do ya say?

I need to make another corner patch like that and I'd like to see what you think in person. I'll make a proper paper pattern for it. I'll bring down that radio body project as well just for fun. Lots of ideas.

Rob
As you gain experience and skills you will be much quicker,... the jobs will be a lot better. All is needed is the will to try.. over and over never give up, ask questions here on the forum and perhaps find some metalshaping videos, there are a few of them , (Dave Gardener, Ron Covell, Lazze, Ron Furnier) just to mention a few, In a few Years you will be looking back and smile .
WELL DONE!
Peter

I really appreciate the encouragement Peter 😊.

I have some of your DVD's on the way and can't wait to sit down and just absorb all I can.

You are too modest Peter, I think you left one out. I have three of the four mentioned but your 1/4 panel video opened my mind up to the possibilities like no other.
