Default Metal Shaping DVD's that will help you learn.

With all the new members signing up and expressing an interest in learning how to shape sheet metal thought I would post this so that the members know what is available. Hope that some of the members that have these DVDs will chime in with their assessment of them.

There are two DVD's available that to me are must haves for the beginner and the experienced metal shaper. I have both and view them often, you can learn and see something different each time you watch them.

Here is a link to David Gardiners, best available anywhere. Cost is about $65 US, price varies based on exchange rate. It is professionally produced and covers how to make panel with hand tools.

Kerry Pinkerton has one called Metal Shaping 101 very good overall explanation of metal shaping. This was recorded at one of the metal meets years ago and transfered to DVD.
Here is a link to a thread on Kerry's DVD,

There are many other good informational videos out there but these two are the best in my opinion. There are also a lot of free videos on You Tube but they are not like full length DVDs.

Thanks Joe for the great write up! The cost of the DVD is less in the USA now because the exchange rate is better. I just looked and at todays exchange rate the DVD with packaging and airmail postage costs -

38.00 British pounds sterling = 59.73 US dollars Exchange rate: 1.571900 Rate valid as of: 13/12/2010

+1 on David's DVD. He makes it look so easy and gets such good results. With some practice I have actually made some parts that I'm happy with and the DVD gave me the inspiration to try in the 1st place. And no David, I still haven't welded the hood halves together. I decided to make one from scratch out of one piece.

I was wondering if there are any metal forming DVD’s that are popular enough that a public library would own them? I am financially embarrassed right now to the point that a $60 or even a $30 DVD is out of the question. I try to get items thru interlibrary loan where possible. Neither of the above DVD’s came up in a library search.

Im glad to see such great feed back everywhere on Davids DVD mine is on its way and I cant to watch it. I was wanting to get some books on metal shaping. But a DVD will be as close to being with the person as it gets and should make it easier to learn what is being taught.

You absolutely won't regret buying it, he shows SO many useful things in it. The only 'criticism' I could give for it is that you really need to watch it over and over to soak up the info because there is so much packed into it. There are tricks he mentions, and ones he does but doesn't mention that if you watch enough times you will start to pick out. Such as using a shot bag as a weight to hold the panel while you work.

Like David always says, Watch it, practice, and watch it again until you master the tricks he shows.

As far as getting the DVDs from a library, I wouldn't count on it. This is an art that the mainstream has forgotten about. There is a site you can rent them from (not sure David's is on there) but it is kinda pricey
