Minor progress in the boot
Got the left and right corner filler panels made up. Bit of messing around working out how the various lap joints needed to nest and the step for the side panels should have been put in first before I bent up the flanges and the bottom return. I'll know when I make the next one... Pretty happy with how it all sits in the end and if I'm careful when I start putting it all together, I should be able to get the spot welder around most of it. Onto the side panels next and then into the cabin area.

Boot panels finished
Got the side panels done. Lots of fiddly detail to get them to nest properly with the rest of the panels, but pretty happy with the outcome. Was going to raise a panel in the middle, but the outside flange won't quite clear the back of the lower post in the swage. Wheeled some shape in before I started and they sit pretty well now, so quit whist I'm ahead I think. I could do them with two setups and complete the second bit upside down and backwards, but I got up early to watch the Rugby, so it would probably end in tears...
The reverse flange around the wheelarch needed a pile of stretching to allow it to come up and the main panel sit flat. Small ballpein hammer on a sandbag to start, various vicegrips and a thin toe dolly sitting on it's edge in a sandbag to planish up. Interesting exercise to watch the back of the panel curl up as I lifted the flange and then come back down again as the return was stretched. Still needs a bit of a tap up, but I'll leave this until I have the first spotwelds in and the main bits locked into position. Into the cockpit now and thinking about the swaybar control cables and an access panel for the rear one above the diff. Have also ordered the LHD gearlever crossover kit for the sequential from TT Industries. Once I have this I can then mount the shifter and work out what space I have left on top of the tunnel.

Flow forming
Needed a small bulge for clearance on both sides of the tunnel sheetmetal to clear parts of the gearbox, so tried some 'flow-forming' that I had seen on one of Kent White's (The Tinman) videos. Made up an adapter for my air chisel to take a stepped nylon button and then chopped out a couple of 'toilet seats' from some old chipboard. Gather normally that you would use a shaped lowed former to rattle the panel hard down onto, but thought it was worth the risk just using a ring. Used just about every clamp in the shop to hold it all down and then gradually rattled in the depression with the chisel. Ended up with a few unwanted marks from the process but a quick washover in the air planishing hammer fixed those. Rest of the panel stayed remarkably flat. Really useful process. Thanks to the panelshaping oracle, 'Obewan' Kent White for the idea.

wow some brilliant work going on here, i low toms bead roller have plans for one somewhere ... who know may build one some day ..

Thanks Marcus and David. Really pleased with how they turned out. May try the process on the door handle recesses when I get to that point - but they will need a shaped backer.

I use stickyback 180 paper under the clamp faces ..... fine valve lapping compound on the clamp threads .... tape up the cross slide handles - keeps them from rattling the screws loose during the time the gun is in play ... and an assistant/observer/spectator can make theyselfs useful by tightening said taped handles each in turn, whilst gun is in play. ....
