i think you are doing some amasing work and i love to see all of it
ass much as i respect the metallshaping goal of this site
its also mentioned a entire car build the chassis would not be off topic
personally i think the dropping axle you did with a stock axle dropping old school is metal shaping also

for me i am very interested in the complete build also

Jim you made me laugh!.

I wanted to find an original firewall, the theory being that while the rest of the panels rot the firewall normally is better. I could not find one over here in the time I had so a friend of mine loaned me his tourer body so I could copy the firewall. It would be easier if the firewall was out of the cowl but I did not think I should even ask if I could do that to his T body... Its really helpful having this car here so I can copy parts.

I thought I would have a quick go at taking a pattern and knocking something up to see how accurate I could get it. I came up with this...

I did not really think it would work so I started with an under-size piece of steel, It came out very accurate so I decided to stick with it. I have to add extra metal to it which is not what I would normally do but it will be fine when done. I am not going to worry about getting every detail correct - its for a hot rod after all...

Here is another shot of the firewall...

I made this from two sections welded together on the radius. the split is where I joined two pieces to make one I just tacked it and it split. I have since welded it. I will post some more photos soon.

David, thanks for posting. I'm loving the craftsmanship shown in this thread. Watched your DVD about 5 times now and still learn something new each time.

Regards, Manny

Thanks for the comments guys I like to get a bit of feedback or it seems like no-one is reading even if the thread shows they are. I am happy you find the DVD informative.

Like I said before I formed the bulkhead section just to see if I could get something that would work, it came out OK so I decided to stick with it. Its made from 16g steel so I decided to just add metal where needed rather than start again. It was not long enough so I added some metal to the bottom...

I gas welded this in place.

I then added some metal to the edges- I don't normally weld on a corner its not the best way to do it, I would normally throw a flange and add metal to this but I had not left myself enough steel to do this. so I trimmed it to the correct shape and added the side flange.

Now I have it in front of me I can see several ways to make this but I am sticking to the section I formed and I know I can get it to look OK. I dont have that much time in it at this stage perhaps a day or so. I can't make up my mind if I should put more detail in the firewall than I have at this point. I will dress out what I have and decide later.

David
