Frank, Great examples ...but lost forever in this tucking fork post.
Why not start a new thread called "Getting Started - Post dollies" We should have a series of these posts titled "getting started ___________". Perhaps an admim can start a Thread and move things.

Ok, finally dug out some 4140 HT for my tucking forks. I knew I had some somewhere! That should be tough enough! I'll turn them and post my results this weekend. Is 16 gauge aluminum what I should order for the hood scoop and other projects in mind?

Frank: Thanks for posting your posts. We will be getting into "T" dollies and post dollies in another "Getting Started".
We will be using .050 (18ga) material for our projects. I am off to Mojave to do a bead rolling demo in the morning and will be back Monday night. Hope to get "Getting Started #2 - Beater Bag up next week. Jere

In this newbie's view, this is an OUTSTANDING post. I can't wait to see the rest and join in on the fun. I will pick up the materials and post up the pics when I get my forks done.

Curious, any reason it would be bad to drill your base and make the Tucking Fork work perpendicular? Would save on material. Just a thought I had today when I was cutting some square tube tonight.
Not trying to reinvent your wheel. It would save me a trip to the metal supply. Going there is not such a bad thing.

Made up mine, just put them in a vise for now. Will weld a tube on later. Only input I can give is, when you buy them at harbor freight look at them closely and try to get 2 with the same taper. I just grabbed 2 and noticed later that the tapers were different.

Just got back from Mojave.
Brad: It would not be a problem to weld the forks into the side of the tube. You will be able to mount the tube in the vise horizontally or vertically. Please show us how they came out. Thanks for the heads up on the taper length. Jrer

Hi Rick.
He liked it quite a bit. We made this sample piece on Friday and made another one for the students on Saturday morning. DSCN3116.jpg Now that I am home I will be building and taking photos of building the "Beater Bag" for Getting Started #2. Should get it posted by Friday. I have to build some bumpers and some floor pans but should be done by Sunday afternoon. Jere
