Default Tim Barton's new MetalShaping book

Hi guys, I've been talking with Tim Barton (Sheet Metal Fabrication, Advanced Sheet Metal Fabrication) for the past year or so about his latest book (we are in it along with everyone else in the world..). Recently it was reported it was available for pre-order but that didn't mesh with what Tim had told me. I emailed Tim and this was his response:

Hi Kerry:

This is Tim Barton. In follow-up to our conversation I would like to clarify a matter regarding the release of my metalshaping book set. In the early going I was involved with a publishing company. We separated amicable quite a long time ago. Unfortunately one of the publisher's employees released two separate press releases featuring two different book cover designs which were both inaccurate. The press releases made a number of errors, and both versions of the book were said on the web to be available soon from certain retailers.

Here are the facts. My book set features seven volumes. Each volume is between 190 and 210 pages in length. There are almost fifty sections or chapters between the seven books. There are thousands of images. For the first time I have done enormous research into our secretive craft. Four years of seven-day weeks have gone into discovering the machinery that has been developed around the world since the 1880s to shape sheet metal. It's all there...patents, early ads, dates, brochures, rare photos, and a timeline in which it all happened.

The first several volumes are going through the copyright process right now. I will start sending out emails and making announcements soon about the release. All volumes will be available as a set within a few months. The title of my book set is, Metalshaping - The Lost Sheet Metal Machines. Each volume is numbered 1 to 7. The book numbers will follow the word "Machines" in the title. Any other metal shaping book that claims to have my name on it is a mistake that hasn't yet been removed from the web.

There is an eighth section featuring hours of obscure DVD fooltage of the shaping machines in action. Later in the year when the full set shows up in book stores the DVD section will be included as part of the set.

My plan is to do an early release of the first of the volumes very soon, and I hope our extended metalshaping community is receptive. The goal was always to establish a base of understanding, and I also hope to get a lot of information feedback, just as you guys get on the websites. Thanks, and continued success.

Tim Barton
Burbank, California

I'll be first in line.

That will be a set of books worth having, any idea on the price.

He's self publishing and I don't think he's gotten firm prices yet. He's still tweaking the material. I've been talking with him on the phone and email for some time. This looks like THE DEFINITIVE book on metalshaping tools. He sent me a couple photos that made my jaw drop. Amazing stuff.

You Betcha. I've seen some of the pages and if what he did for everyone is as good as he did on us, it will be the DEFINITIVE book.
