Default Double spring coil

Heater coils in aircraft instruments are also double coiled for the same reason. Better fatigue life.

I wonder in the case of military rifles if 1 or 2 of the strands broke would the rifle possibly still fire but at a slower rate giving the user a chance to have it repaired before a total failure ? I really don’t recall this type of spring in M-16 rifles (it was almost 50 years ago for me) but I definitely remember problems with them jamming ……… that was scary. ~ John Buchtenkirch
