Default shape of a dollie?

Hello everybody,
well first post of a very rookie from Italy.
as a christmas gift i bought to myself a half football dollie, but looking its contour in the photo my question is if it's correct that the two half are different. the right part infact is higher than the left one...

thanks and Merry Christmas!

The reason that it is different on one side than the other is so you can find the proper shape to fit your need, depending on the shape of your job.
You will find that you will need many dollies. Flat ones, some with low crown, and some with medium crown. A seasoned metal man will have 10 plus in is set.

Ciao Guerrino Buon Natale e Benvenuto sul Forum

Hi Guerrino welcome to the forum

It's probably better if the dolly has two different surfaces you could use it with different shapes

What Peter said, you are only beating against a small area of a dolly so most have many usable shapes to the surface. The dolly you show would be used for very high crown areas. I found that it is hard to buy flatter one's and in fact most dollies you can buy have quite a bit of shape so I make my own when it comes to flatter shapes.

Hello Guerrino and welcome.

When you go to junk shops or wrecking yards learn to look at different pieces purely for their shape and not for their intended use. I have brought home pieces that weigh 20lb just to cut out a 2lb piece of the shape I wanted and then forged it into a stake tool.

Thats what I do also!
I was at the scrap yard one day and a guy asked me, what I was looking for.
I just said "I'll know when I see it"
