I think the thin walled metal buck is a bit more accurate in areas where there are sharp drop-offs in the curves like around the radiator opening. No, I haven't. Had been working offshore for a while and now in between contracts but when getting the chance, push hard to get things done. I'd much rather have a job close to home and enjoy every thing I make even if it takes much longer that compromise on the fun I should be having. That said, it is still very satisfying when things come together. Do you guys have links to your projects?

Very, very impressive Cobus. Do you have an in process photos. Folks here want to see the 'HOW' not just the finished product.

What a great result. Must be looking forward to doing the rest now.

Kerry, the pics posted were the first ones taken. The main reason for that was I wasn't too sure about the integrity of the buck on a millimeter basis as I had only a day to copy the data from a Cobra. So I first want to get a body from the buck, smooth the body so it flows correctly from every angle, put it back on the buck and then rectify the buck wherever it is needed. Once that has been sorted with the first body, I will start a thread, linked with this one, and do an in-depth documentation on the 2nd build.
There is also still too many things I am learning myself and have to improvise upon, but once the first is done, I hope to contribute a little to this great site from which I have received so much.

Cobus, is your plan to 'produce' these bodies?

Yes, that is the plan.

That is dirt cheap but shipping is going to be a bear. There are a few cobra forums but most don't allow advertising unless you 'become' an advertiser. I don't know what that entails. I make 'spats' for cobras and sell them to a 'advertiser' who marks them up 100% and resells them. But if I wanted to let people know they can come to me direct (which I don't), I'd get booted from the forum.

Ok Kerry, thanks for the info and warning.
Just as an aside, there is an African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) agreement between America and some African states of which South Africa is part of about not having import duties both ways for a lot of products. Finding someone gas welding aluminum and steel is quite unusual over here and there is a real lack of decent fluxes, filler wires and the like and maybe an opportunity for someone to establish their products as metal shaping is in its infancy in SA.

Just to finish this thread I started more than 2 years ago.
I completed the body three months after I started the project bar the hinges for the doors, boot and hood. Had to start a new job then and shelved the body where it gathered dust since. Got a phonecall from a guy few weeks ago that was interested in the build back then and sold it to him today. Cleaned the body some and he came and picked it up. Main take away for me was the confidence I gained in the process and although it is by no means a masterpiece, am sure happy with this first time effort. Only wished I had taken more pics of the build because I always thought to do it the following day which never happened. Would I ever do such a big project again? Nope. It took heaps of energy, ingenuity and just sheer determination. You really need to do this over a period of years and not months to keep enjoying it. Awesome work!
Have you kept the buck and are you going to make another body? Cheers Charlie
