Had a fun week at Kerry's, he kept me watered and fed, did give me some time for breaks, so we get some of the things planned accomplished. Thanks for the hospitality.

The hand held Harbor Freight Lancaster style shrinker/stretcher with the stippled dies really worked well and saved a lot of time in adjusting the panels. There are worth their weight in gold when needed. Kerry built a set of handles that lets you use them at 90 degrees to the panel. I have to make a set of handles like that for mine. He also modified the frame on one a little that allows more clearance to get in tight spots.

I was pleased with the progress that was made on the car. Wish we could have gotten a little more done but we ran out of time.

Thanks again.

Got the LAST fender hung and the wheel well opening tipped at last. I cut the original opening too large and had to add some metal.

Been waiting on this day for a while. With the rear inner fender in place and screwed to the wheel flange (screws are temporary) the fender is stable. It actually looks better in person than the photos but there is certainly a good bit of metal finishing to be done. I also have to install the front inner panel also.

I've done about everything wrong on this build that can be done. Trying to fit the fender to the finished decklid is certainly one.

It did finally occur to me that there actually IS at least one panel with a straight line in it....the rocker panels below the doors.

Glad to see the fender mounted, wish we could have gotten that done while I was there.

The only one I've tried to use is the rear left but I'm sure they'll work just fine.

I'm remounting the decklid today......

Thank you for this thread. I've really learned a lot from it. I like that in many ways you are learning too - I think I pick up more knowledge from an "intermediate" (Ha) than a pro because the pro has too many "magic moments" when things just happen whereas someone like you is actually puzzling it out for us right in this thread.

The project looks amazing, not just the metal craft - I really love your design - looks really evocative of the old Bugatti's and such. All those reverse curves would scare the heck out of me.

Since you haven't mentioned it I assume you are not annealing the panels ? I further assume that you don't feel its necessary with the 3003 ?

3003 and 1100 don't need to be annealed unless you're doing some serious hammerforming or similar. As long as the panel is wheeled or planished occasionally (by hand or hammer), you can continue to work it until it basically becomes aluminum foil.

Welcome to AllMetalShaping Preston. Please do an intro.

Had a couple dental appointments this week, another water leak, sheesh, it never ends...

Anyway, I added some metal to the left rear decklid flange.

Once a little tuning is done I think the decklid/fender fit will be nice.

Time to work on the rest of the left rear fender. Starting in the middle helps stiffen everything up. I clecod the center panel in place.

And then welded it in.

From my workbench, I pulled out the rest of the fender panels that folks made...unfortuately, whoever made this one forgot to turn the flexible pattern inside out and made it just like the right side.

No problem, I'll just turn it inside out. RIGHT! It's really hard to turn a reverse inside out. Really hard! After a few minutes, I added it to the scrap pile and made a new one.

Ran out of time to get it welded completely in but got it placed. The outer edge of the rear fender will turn under and match the right side. Another day should get this done. I'm going shooting tomorrow so it will probably be Monday.

Only two weeks till Oblong '09 and I've got a lot to do. Gather up what I'm taking, clean out the trailer, lube the hubs, check the wiring, etc. It snuck up on me big time.
