I was wondering what tooling the craftsmen used to use.

Hi Frank, I use a toe dolly for turning the flange and closing it over on most areas, occasionally I may need a different shape so chose something suitable. I then use closing plyers to finish. To my knowledge this is pretty much how it has always been done.
I am sure Geoff would have shown you the same thing, it's how I show it. David

I was at Geoff his place only for one day and we mainly did wheeling techniques and some ali welding at the end. But when I looked around I only saw some basic tooling. 1 Ranalah and one other cast iron brand wheeling machine. An old jenny, a small stump with a very old mallet and some dollies. A brake, roller bender, flypress and OA. And of coarse some hammers but I didn't see a lot of those.
I love machines, don't get me wrong, but I get really enthusiastic discovering the straight old school way of doing things by hand. Understanding what is going on in the metal gives a kick. But making a little gadget like the edge wiring dolly is very nice to do also. And it's shiny Grt Frank

Frank you could use that dolly on a bench but I can't really see how it could be used on say a wing, or when working on the car. It's hard to explain the process but any panel can be wire edged with no more than a hammer and dolly.
