Phil Remington, The Life of
Phil Remington was one of the post-WW2 dynamos of car building, design, and engineering, for those who may not know of him.
This new article covers the basics of Rem's life and major accomplishments: http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...hil-remington/

Kent,
A name I'd never heard of before today and what an inspirational character. One of those who are gifted with an understated life force that I suppose you only appreciate as you attain a certain age. Let's hope the future gives us similar characters. Thanks for posting.

Wow, that is a great article. I'd heard the name but knew nothing of the backstory.
Thanks for posting the link Kent.

Kent, Thank-you for continuing to preserve and present the history and heroes of metal shaping and fabrication. I've read a little about Remington before in Shelby books, but this put the whole picture together. Thanks.

Rem
If forum members wish to read more about REM there are a couple items currently on ebay that give further insight into this great man's talents & contributions. Ebay item #301040690346 & #302032689064. I have no connection to either item. Over the years, I've had the honor to work on several of REM's creations - a more humble, talented, helpful and gracious individual could not be found.

Kent, thank you for posting this article. I would not have seen it otherwise In the mid 80's I was working for a race team based in Santa Ana, CA., just down the road for Gurney's shop. I got to know the guys in the shop and purposely clung on to Phil for both fabrication knowledge and stories of racing's past.
Our transporters would team up to leave town together. This might be thought of as a cool looking convoy but it was ultimately requested by Dan Gurney because his drivers would take their time getting to the tracks out east and south bound. I had a habit of getting in early. While waiting for their guys to be ready to depart I was able to spend many hours in the shop. AAR was always on the forefront of the latest materials and techniques. As noted in the article, Rem enjoyed his Mexican food. Every Wednesday when we were in town I would stop at a little take out restaurant on Warner Ave and pick up a bag of tacos and head to the AAR shop for lunch and stories. There was no internet, no youtube. If you had a fabrication problem you had a bag of tacos and a Rem to sort things out. Besides his knowledge and gracious nature, he was also an ambassador of passing the trade skills forward. Regardless of their own natural talent his "stamp" is all over masters like Jeff Haywood and Pete Wilkens. That stamp being more than just phenomenal fabrication skills, but gracious humility as well.
