Thanks Charlie. Definitely not making another one.
Hi Barry, thanks. Will contact you. Yes me too Marcus. The buyer is a dealer in Cobras and wants this one for himself and is not reselling it. Asked him to send pics as he goes on. Maybe I can post it here to fully complete the story.

Hey Cobus
Long time, no chat.... Well done on your build and cudos to you for sheer guts and determination to get this gargantuan task completed. Mighty impressive! Your buck, in my estimation, has to be one of the smartest designs for flexibility and in this respect I really admire your ingenuity. I do hope that in time, you'll find the heart to tackle another 'meaty' shaping project. Somehow, I think you will.

Thank you for the compliments Manny.
Next time I have a feeling to do something similar, would go and lie on the bed and hope it goes away...

Hi Cobus. I have been thinking of using a laser distance meter with a frame similar to yours. I can then draw it up in cad essentially creating a point cloud manually with a combination of set values and the measured values. I am not sure if the laser meter can measure on curved surfaces. Shiny surfaces might give it a hard time, but that is pretty easy to overcome. Did you ever try this on consider it?

I would like to see some details of your press brake that was in the background. Did you build it ? And all the other silly questions.

Hi James.
No I havent considered it. I only had a day to take the measurements and if a laser didnt work for some reason, I was toast. But I think is should work well. It might be best to make it to slide along the axes so as to take any measurement anywhere as opposed to the 50mm interval I had. This would make it pretty handy to locate the precise location for say, the side vents which was hard to do my way. As for the curves, it might work if you can take the reading of the laser and compare it with a physical measurement. Do it over different angles of a curve to see where it becomes untrue. Normally, if the curve becomes too flat on the vertical axis, it should by then be much easier to read on the horizontal. Hi Don. Yes I made it. The idea was to have a secondary press (horisontal) come into play while the other (from the top) has already pressed down somewhat. It was used to press a deepish round bevelled indent into a sheet of aluminum. In the end it proved not so effective and I have since learned not to overthink problems.
