I made a thing
I started this combination gas tank/ head light while I was at the Route 56 meet. I intended to use it on a cyclecar project but it's too big for the car so I'll make something different. It was good practice none the less. Last edited by route56wingnut; 05-05-2013 at 03:58 AM. |

Lookss pretty Bob, It is steel right?Sometimes metal work is beautifful just on it's own. I put headlights in the tank on a bike Years ago.It had a Harmon 22 over front end stretched way out. Drove it once on the freeway. Too long, Too low, And very scary. But it looked cool.

I saw your buck at Dans, and it looked nice. The project turned out very nice as well. It was nice meeting you, and great to match faces with names here on the forum.
Would you consider posting pictures and maybe a dimension or two on the very well received donut dollie that you made and Kerry displayed. I would be interested in making one.

Hey Will, I started with a steel rod 3" diameter, 2" long. Drill a 1" diameter hole through the center. Then cut a .500" radius on the outer edge of one side. Then a .500" radius on the inner edge of the same end. Then turn the piece around and cut through the bore at about 22.6 degrees until you reach the tangent of the inner 1/2" radius. Then cut the 1/4" inner and outer radii.
I've made a couple more of these but I changed the design a bit. The new ones have the same 1/2" radius on one side to create the donut but the 1" hole only goes in about 3/4" deep. The other face is nearly flat with a 40" radius and a .25" radius at the outer edge. So this nearly flat face can be used "on dolly". It would be a good tool for taking dings out of door skins.
