Hi Richard,
When I make parts that have shapes like this, I try to lay out the sections so that I can flip this shape over and planish it in reverse - using smooth tools because it is also difficult to metal finish - and also to sand the primer nicely...! For me, I have to plan this hollow shape out in advance, so I don't make an exhausting trip through a swamp for myself.
