I'm in the final stages of a total gut job on the kitchen. I should be able to wrap it up in a few more days. Lesson learned: Steel and aluminum - Goood. / Drywall and sawdust - evil rotten nasty!

Wow, I am in the same project! The wife said do it now so you wont have to do it this summer. It is killing me thou, as I have collected the parts for my scooter upgrade and have it half torn down but no time allowed for play. Getting close as the granite guy was by yesterday to measure up the top.
Get yours done Jack as we need you back on the Caddy!

Hey, Remember me? I finally got back out in the garage so lets get back to work. I had to reread my own thread to see what I was doing when I left off.
I think I need to build the skirt frame before I go any further on the skin. I don't have the information along the lower front to finish the skin without guessing, so I started on that. Same procedure as the upper one. I started with some 1 x 1 angle and notched the front so I could get the tight bend, then welded it back together The rest was just bending and heat shrinking as needed to get the contour along the length of the fender. This frame will need to be done partly on the buck and the rest on the car. Once I have this one fitting right, I can modify the buck so I won't have to go back and forth when I'm doing the right fender. The upper piece is a good fit so I'll start cutting in the latch openings tomorrow. It's good to be back in the garage.

I have no idea where people get so much time for some of their projects. It's always good to see interesting builds like yours pop up again.

I needed to check level and find my longitudinal center line again so I could tack the left fender on. I need to make sure the fender is plumb and the peak runs parallel with the center line of the car. Once I was sure about location, I tacked the fender on. It needed very little trimming and went on pretty easily.
If you look closely you can see an area about two feet long that had a little too much gap. What I did was tacked in a length of 3/32" welding rod that will help me bridge the gap when I start welding. Pretty good profile of the fender along the slope of the deck lid. Next I got back to framing the skirt. I made a bracket for the forward Dzus fastener and got that welded on in place. Next I made the front leg of the frame. This is only 18 ga sheet but when it's bonded to the skin it will be plenty strong. The front of this leg will weld to the full length horizontal part of the frame.

Nice big step there and all the hard work of the buck seems to have paid off.
