Default Great Auto Darkening Helmet

I bit the bullet and decided to try an ESAB Sentinel A-50 helmet after reading some very positive reviews. My current helmet has been a Lincoln Viking, which I found to be 1/2 the price and much better than my previous Miller helmet.

The ESAB A-50 is a remarkable leap forward IMHO. The "picture" is absolutely clear, and in "real" color as opposed to the slime green that I normally see in helmets.

The head band is also a big improvement and completely adjustable so that you can "center" your eyes through the lens. It's very convenient and comfortable.

It was pricey at $300, but I feel very much worth it.

I don't work for ESAB, and this is actually the first ESAB product I've ever purchased. YMMV.

How light does the lens go when not in weld mode? I find i have more trouble that way. It certainly LOOKS the part of something different.

There is a "grind" button on the OUTSIDE of the helmet that makes it easy to make the lens nearly clear. Just tap it. You don't need to flip up the hood.

Is it possible to change the battery?
I have worn out a few helmets and it is impossible to replace the batteries in the upper shelf.

Hi Bill
Wondering if your new helmet has holders on the inside for a magnafing lens
or are you able to wear reading glasses while using the helmet?

A 5 pack of the clear front covers are less than $19 Amazon Prime. Not bad at all. I think ones for my Miller are probably more than that.
