I thought it was quite a challenging panel and want to know if there is a better way.
101 views in less that three hours at an off peak time, could be some kind of record I will have to set some more Holiday tests lol. Cheers Mark. Are you planning another visit any time? Come and see me again if you do. David

I'd try it with 2 main sections and weld in the middle of the flat area, however it might distort in the middle, where the shape is, it might need a small piece letting in there, if you can't get it to lay flat.

Thanks Ben. That does help a lot. I've got four months to reskin the Giulietta so you can count on seeing more questions from me!

Sorry Martin I don't understand where you are saying a small piece might be needed. Still working on my landlord to sort something out so I can do some classes by the way. Have you done any more practicing aluminium gas welding since you were here?. David

I think there must be a way to do it in one piece just by hammering...

Yes with a 500 ton press Ben. Perhaps on a power hammer but that would be a lot of shrinking and stretching. And it's 16g. (1.6mm)
Any more suggestions from anyone about how this could be made?. It's not a trick question I plan on doing it the way Ben said just wanted to know if in am missing a trick. Next question again for anyone who cares to answer- how many hours would you estimate for the job if it were brought to you?. David

It's a combination of the 2 methods suggested, I'm just thinking the stretching and shrinking needed at the corners will distort the panel. dg cowl.jpg With regards to the ali welding, it's something I wanted to have a play with over the christmas break, when all is quiet at my workshop, I'll post some pictures if I think it will help anyone.

I know what you are saying about the fares, I think it is even more costly from here. I have been wanting to visit my sister in Victoria but if I do I will come alone or with my brother because it's just too much money for all of us. Then there is the cost of the workshop while I am not there earning. (Who would be self employed) My girls are grow now but they still come on holiday with us.
It seems that I come across as if I am trying to say the way I do things is the only way and I don't know how else counter that. No big deal. David

Might be over your way next year actually as my wife's boss wants her to attend a conference there. Love to be able to drop in and see your workshop if it was at all possible. Although taking time away from your work would not be good.
