Oh no, you decide when you're done. It's the effort and documentation that will get you in the drawing.

I have a question about a possible project. I thought I wanted to make a motorcycle tank, but I will not be building a motorcycle any time in the near future, so I have been thinking of other things that I could build which I actually want so it serves 2 purposes.

I was thinking about making a set of 4 fender flares for my Tacoma like these:

I would have to make duplicate pieces, which serves a purpose in the contest, and I would have to do that twice for 2 pairs. WHile I probably wouldn't need a buck, I would need to make a pattern, shrink/stretch to the right shape, make a FSP, and duplicate the first part. Then do it all again for the rear. Would this be adequate for the intermediate project? I will probably change the design from the picture, but it will be close.

Yeah, that would work. I believe it's actually a lot harder than you might might think it is. Should be a good challenge.

Kerry,
Is this getting close to a start date. I think there will be more people interested after they see a few projects getting done. That should spark thier interest.

I am just finishing a copy of a stainless project that I did 4 years ago and used the tape patterns and original part as a buck that I would like to use if possible. Even if I can not use it in the contest I will post it soon from flat sheet to finish pollished stainless. Fun project for retirement gift for co-workers.

I guess I will be the first. Well maybe, depending on when I have time to put together the pictures.

I made a stainless steel welding hood for a welding instructor for our welding apprentice program about 4 years ago. It was his retirement gift from the apprentice commitee.

Last week I presented another retirement S.S. hood to a gentleman that tought me how to weld 30 years ago. He worked for our company for 41 years. Quite an acomplishment for anyone. I used the same tape pattern from the first one and the Hunstman plastic hood as the buck. Most of the hammer work was done by hand. My plannishing hammer seemed to aggressive to use in the corners. All of the techniques used came from metal shaping sites on the web and alot of years of taking out my frustrations on metal.

I have some pictures of the first one in my gallery and will post the new one sometime this week.

Haven't made much progress, but this is what I'm doing for a pedalcar. I'm playing with the scale in autocad, a 1/3 scale gives me a 10" outer tire diameter and 60" overall length. Any ideas for wire wheels with a 10" outer diameter?

Silvo, at this point, I guess it died for lack of interest

I think the mistake I made was making it such a long lead time. Folks tend to procrastinate and now the year is about over with no entries.

I hope you'll post the content anyway.

What about a metal contest starting the first of the year lasting till Feb. We could use our 32 grill measurements and such. I had thought the Bailiegh contest had consumed this one. Sorry Kerry. JPM
