Default Schelin Shrinks a Reverse Curve: Video

Hi all.

Last week I was at Wray Schelin's shop in Connecticut working with a class to wheel panels for a custom car. Wray showed us how to shrink a reverse curve on a specially shaped log. The steel is 19 gauge. As usual, Wray's make it look so easy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QK-vdlTvBHI

The part made is the front of a wheel arch and the reverse curve flows out to become the fender flare.

Interesting, especially for aircraft parts where one needs to maintain the material thickness.

Thanks for posting, Bill

Short, but very informative...

Default shrinking reverses

Wray is demonstrating a technique related to the one described in this post.

Wray's 3 day class is on my wish list! Everything I have read about it makes me want to take even more!

Gene Olsen showed this some time back also. There is an artsy name for it but I can't recall what it is.

Wray did something similar back in 2002 at Formfest 02. We needed to do a shrink in the middle of the door skin for for Les Edmonson's ZM2 roadster. He took a couple piece of OSB, carved a wedge out of them and used that to create a shrink. Blew me away.
