One other thing. When I tig I generally don't even wear a helmet.I'm also usually seated and at low amps. I use this. # 8 is plenty of shade and look at the view !

I tried some lower lumen lights and they helped some, but I'm going to follow your lead and upgrade. I ware tri-focals so use single vision readers and even add magnifiers. Still not totally satisfied. Still seems too dark. Miller helmet. Also have the shield above and was trying it for acetylene, but seems too dark also.

It appears the 6B is in Cobalt Blue to kill the orange in O/A work. You might like it a lot http://www.sellstrom.com/store/Dp4%E...B?category=all

Another addition
Because I'll tend to not put on all the proper equipment when I do a quick weld, I've added a bib to the lower edge of my helmet. This protects your lower neck area from getting burnt.
I found the HF helmets will start to flash when welding at low amps with Tig. Bought a Speedglas helmet at the swap meet, and it works great. It also has better breather holes, so my glasses don't get fogged up as much.

Here's my old Huntsman "shortie" with the Tillman bib and the leather skull cover with look-thru opening. I just flop the 18in x 30in leather over my noggin and clamp the helmet down over that. I use the same leather for my stick welding headgear, too.
P1030867 c.jpg For xtra light I just clip on the ratty old flashlight cuz it's bright enough I can read directions/plans/diagrams with the helmet down - shade 10, goldy. P1030866 c.jpg Oh yeah - dual lenses on my hat - been working on a new arc lens for a while - side by side testing wuz needed - version S9-10-12 and 14 w/ goldy coat nearly finished. I really like the visibility. Should get some production going on these this fall .... not flicker-flash lenses, just plain old static ones, sorry. (ps, I do not like arc flash. I have tried different flicker-flash lenses over the time they have been offered. I do not get flashed with the static lenses and I can see pretty well with the hat down.)
