Here are the louvers as done on the 2.9 Alfa Romeo coupe by Touring of Milan as referenced -- that stretched into the cowl itself. (my restoration pictures) Not at nice as what you did above but restoration is different from new fabrication.
[louver panel as cut into the cowl panel itself -- rivet and trim ring attached the panel] [Front the outside -- riveted and trim ring detail. Louvers haven't been fixed yet] [From the inside of the louvered hood itself] Remember this was Touring of Milan coachbuilding methods from the early / mid-1930's era. Each was originally drilled, cut and handformed. I'm sure they would have loved to have had a Pullmax!

Mark, thanks for that picture. The car owner had a single Alfa picture that showed a completely painted car and much less detail. I'll have to share these with him....

thanks Paul!
Well FedEx showed up today with a CL delivery, got a matched pair of 48" linear rails. The two bearing blocks will have a material clamp bolted to each block, and used on one rail. We'll get a chance to try it out on the second louver sample. Where we had been manually holding the workpiece against the back stop, this should work better with a simple glide back and forth once clamped in place.. While I was getting that squared away, Kyle removed the spot welded guides from the louver panel. The good part about samples is we can see what works well and what doesn't. Here we can see that we won't use spot welds next time as it's too much clean up. I think we'll give some stainless rivets a shot on version 2...

Marcus, the metal work on the car is being done by Cody Walls, here is the thread on the HAMB...
http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...-chevy.976318/ He does absolutely beautiful work, all TIG welded seams.. Here is the hood side from the other night with the fake green louvers... please feel free to comment as they are easier to change now in tape..

Would using a medium strength adhesive be possible? Something like roof and gutter silicone sticks quite well and can be torn off later, Cheers Charlie |

Maybe spot weld the curved guides to a separate, larger piece of sheet metal that is large enough to reach the edge of the piece to be louvered. Spot weld it close to the edge then shear it off after the louvers are punched.
