reshaping shrinking hammer
i have one of the serrated shrinking hammers, i like the round planishing side of the hammer but i was thinking of polishing off the square serrated end. any ideas on a good shape?(flat, contored,) i'm just not real sure what would be most useful with a square end
anybody got a (different) shape you find yourself using often? ted fremont ohio |

I had one of those hammers. I welded over the waffle pattern, rounded the corners and made about a 3 inch radius crown to the hammer. Now it's worth using.

I use mainly a 12 inch radius for most of my hammers, with the edges rounded and relieved. the square end is great for working close to edges and into corners. If it is one of the larger hammers, maybe 1 1/2" dia, I call it a fast mover because of the weight behind it. I believe Fairmount makes a smaller one about 1" dia that works nicey for more detailed work, again, with the serrations either filled or ground off.
