Default Anvil repair

I purchased a large anvil that needs some repair on one end of it, what would be the best way to fix it? I made a a 24inch long sleeve to put over the anvil so I have a sharp edge to shape sheetmetal, but I would like to repair the damaged area on the anvil. John

Just mig weld it and grind it flat. on my favorite anvil, i left one side sharp and the other radiused about 3/8, I fint that very handy. I also recently repaired another one that needed a ton of buildup, i mig welded that one as well and bolted it in my mill to get it flat again.

Hi Johnny

Welcome to Allmetalshaping.

I picked up a large anvil too.I'm not a black smith so I intend on modifying mine to suit my needs for sheet metal shaping. On the square hole and and the little drilled hole in the back used for attachments.I'm going to fill those, then radius all of the edges.I want to make the back of it more like a loaf post dolly. Then try to get the upper surface as polished as I can.

For the stand I just want to find a log to sit it on.So basically what I am trying to do is turn this anvil into a large post dolly.

Why are you adding the metal to the top is it all pitted up?If so do you know anyone with a large disk sander?

I will show my progress, when I get to it but I have two projects in front of it now.
