I have to re-place my tail pan also on my 39 Pontiac.I wish I had the time to work on them together via Internet.

I would not be able to do mine for at least two weeks. It's the last bit of rust I have to repair.

I would remove the skin that needs replaced first. then with the trunk lid fitted on car reshape the weather strip channel till it fits the lid. remember the thickness of the sheet metal that would be on it.

If you have to make the corners of the channel then this is most likely the best way. certainly the easiest.

Yours is far batter condition than mine.. How is the floor of your trunk?

Thanks Rod Doc, would heating the flat stock and then bending it over a pipe be the way to go to get the radius?

I made the channel in the brake. Then I used a linear stretch die in my planishing hammer to make the bends. I had to use the torch to shrink the inside and stretch the outside with the planishing hammer on the corners. I used 18 gage. It was slow going and took some time. I may still have pictures on my computer at home. They are in my tool gallery on Metal Meet, if they survive whatever is going on.....

Default 39 chev.

I replaced that panel with the ems unit also. The part you need to fix ,drip rail I used a big cresent wrench and hammer on. Heat as needed but try cold working first.

Here is the die I was talking about. I used the flat upper with it. You need the c shape to make clearance for the channel.

Sorry about the quality of the photo. I can take better pictures if anyone is interested.
