i am ready to start the outer panels now, i have had a couple of attempts at a 1/4 panel and got better with each try. i called in to see peter tommasini and ask for advise as although its not bad i know it could be better!

here is the 3rd attempt...

Attachment 34211

Attachment 34213

i had trouble with doing the top piece in one go so i cut it and tig'd it together. although its not too bad peter did give me some good advice and a few tips using the wheel.

so i left peter's on saturday and headed for the workshop to have another go, this time moving the weld joint to a more suitable place and doing the top piece in one go...

so i marked off where it would roughly join...
Attachment 34214

then had a go with a rather large piece that was a little hard to handle with my disability...

its a lot closer now but still needs a little work to get it correct, but thank you again peter
Neil you are half way there . Now look at the end of the panel (where it starts to fall down towards the rear) .... work on the bulbous shape first ,you need to block more shape in, and at the same time start doing some tuck shrinking, this procedure will make the panel shorter and closer to the right shape and fall, then help that shape by stretching the top edge above it
you might have to move the return as well .....but that it's easy done on the wheel
You are doing well keep going ,and if you think you getting in to trouble come up and see me before it's too late
Peter

so i started to make a tucking fork on the lathe as its probably quicker than waiting for one to be delivered, but I've got plenty to get on with...

Neil
Put some more shape on to the bulbous right from the other end, and pull down towards the end near where the joint is going to be ,then stretch some more at the top ,( all the way) try to have the panel open a bit so you can use a flat as possible wheel ....you can always close the panel when you think you have enough shape
At this point you can start cutting SOME unwanted material off, but be careful not to cut too much!
you are doing well!!
Peter
