Default Southern Polyurethanes primers

was looking for personal experience with Southern Polyurethanes primers..
whats the some opinion about them?
i currently use PPG products in my shop (epoxy, high build K36, etc) ..
im cautious of using new products , due to the fact i dont paint. i just get the body close ready for other shops to paint. ive tried other products in the past and had problems with them cracking, dry pealing , shrinking, or not sticking on hard corners and etc... with the cost of PPG going up above $300 plus for primer kits... im looking just to see about other products and heard few things about SP primers... just wanting some opinion of people that been using them for awhile...
thanks
mat

I have used all of their products since 2004. Go to their forum and you will see fabulous work. Most recently a GoodGuys winner. A few years ago a Black Mustang graced the cover of HotRod all their stuff. Year One Cars yep their stuff too.

We use it on our builds and they are very high quality products.Plus you can't beat the customer service,Once our painter needed a question answered in the middle of a late night paint job and the owner of Southern Poly ( Barry) was there to help him thru the issue. You can't beat it. Bob

Excellent support too. Not only do they have a forum of their own, you can call Barry himself and ask any question you like. In the catalog, there is a section called "The Perfect Paint Job" and lemme tell you, its full of tips tricks to get the best product. He wont "sell" you, the product and the service stands on its own, hands down.

I wish I had seen that perfect primer article years ago..... with the exception of the double dip clear and the overnight flash times in the base its exactly what I do. With my favorite 2580cr dupont primer edging 400$ for a mixable gallon and a half I will give these guys a try.

Barry Kives is a great guy and really supported the metalshaping community. Until the 'troubles', he paid for the Oblong Fairgrounds fee behind the scenes for 4-5 years.

As I recall (and I think I'm correct), Barry worked in the labs at Dupont (could have been PPG but I think it was Dupont) before the bean counters made them start cutting costs and making paint of less quality. He left and started SPI and made sure it has all the good stuff in it.

You might look at Upol. Their products are good and not too expensive.
