I've never tried flangewelding. Does one add material doing this? Or is there enough through the flange?

You're welcome.

I didn't add material to the puddle when doing the flange weld, just used what was there. Just helps to get started and understand the heat control. Notice my comment about the angle... angle of the torch will control the heat. What was odd is I would be moving at a decent pace, and the weld just sat there... then boom, I had to move fast. It just happens, so just go with it.

For butt welding, I did add material. The photo of my son shows him with the spool feeding it in.

My brother went blind a few years ago (retina issue). Given what he has gone through adjusting at age 60, I'd gladly spend $200 to protect my eyes.
