Lightbulb Little tricks

Your project is looking really good. A thought I alway keep in mind is to keep the weld area as straight as possible. A nice straight line will give you a nice straight weld as the heat follows the line. A straight line will give you less distortion. I'm more of a repairer than a fabricator so I've learn't this from many years of making repair panels like your doing here.

Martin, The end result is fantastic !
Like the guys have said 90 % of the job is the prep
wearing reading glasses was a game changer for me (when I could actually see my results improved which made me want to practice more)

That's some very nice work. I would be real proud of that if it was mine. Way more fun than just buying a panel, and it probably fit way better too.
