Allright, I've seen this technique around here a bit but as a beginner I would like a description. It looks like a urethane die in the Trumpf bumping the sheet metal directly, and the plywood profile is a guide for the die. What are you bumping against? (in other words, what is below the sheet metal?) Am I seeing oversize corners in the pattern? How did that die hold up and what is it made of?
Any terminology here would be very useful for me. I've seen urethane or rubber dies used in a power hammer to transfer a profiled pattern onto sheet metal in low profile relief. Rubber die on top, sheet metal, pattern, than solid plate below. It turned out very sharp with little or no distortion to the rest of the sheet.

Adair,
Here is my video showing Rick Mullin making a Porsche panel using a similar method. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsL0X4FsEoI

Hey
the First try that i made was with a Rubber Die(you see on the Picture) but it was to soft. then i try the Pu Die, it works verry well. On the other Picture you see whats under the Sheetmetal. 2 Plates of Plywood. bold together with screws. than came the sheet and on top the last plate. its verry importend when you go to the Trumpf/pullmax. you must go deeper and deeper step by step and very slow. Greetings Chrischan

Hi Chrischan, thanks for showing us. I'm about to make a similar panel so this helps a lot .
Is that a Trumpf TAS 42A? If it is I'd like to ask if you have a manual to go with it, I'm still looking for one. |
