Anyone heard of Jim Hume?
I found this website http://www.target550.com/index.html through landracing.com and Jim Hume seems to be directing alot of the work being done here. Not mention the countless others that are putting in a great deal of work in on htis car.
I have been drooling over the pics for several days... Just wonder if I have bumped into him at a meet and never knew it

Wasn't he (Jim) the guy that Doug Walters liked to tour his shop up in the Northwest or maybe in Canada? What ever became of Doug, by the way?

Ron,
I met Jim in the late 70's. He was one of the premier Drag Racing Tin bashers at that time. I was building race cars at the time and my partner new Jim fairly well. We were building dragsters and funny cars at the time and i had a chance to meet and talk with him one evening at orange county raceway in southern california. He explained to me about recessed tungsten tig tacking which i learned and am still using today. He was also a proponent of Hydrogen/gas welding aluminum. I believe that he also used denatured alcohol to thin the welding flux.

Jim Hume - gas welding O/H
I've spent several days at Jim's shop years ago and his work and experience is very impressive. He is an amazing wood worker and his accuracy on all of his work is incredible.
He has worked with many of the serious SoCal car builders and really knows his stuff. He used to write gas welding articles for some of the racing publications.
