Another way to do leak free pipe is to use threadless couplings . Fit the pipes and then weld around the pipe . The fittings have a friction fit to the pipe . The fittings are steal not cast iron. They are a bit more expensive , so I started making my own out of threaded fittings . That was time consuming so I went with threaded fittings , and after treading in and lining things up I welded the fitting in place. leaks no more.
Piping with the PEX and nut & ferrel fittings work great also .

I build pneumatic rigs for the SFX in the film industry and non-acetic cure silicone sealant in conjunction with PTFE plumbing tape. The joint is tightened firm to tight and never leaks.
No fancy snake oil formulas; no fancy prices either!

PTFE tape first on dry threads and then silicone on top of that?
