Default Stump prep

Just picked up a piece of red oak stump from a tree that fell in a recent storm. Has anyone got any thoughts/experiences with what to do to preserve an oak stump? bark on bark off. seal it? steel ring to keep it from splitting.
Any dont forget to(s) Just a general question to make the most use of it.
Thanks in advance.

I took off the bark and the new growth.Treat it with boiled linseed oil,I add more when it looks dry.I kept it covered when I wasn't using it,I did that for about a year to help slow down the drying.

I did add three straps, and tightened them when needed.

Place the dish close to the edge so you can get your hands underneath and clear of the stump.

For your main dish I would say a 6 1/2'' diameter by a 1 1/2'' deep dish is just about perfect.

They say the dish should be more of a cone, there are some tutorials on how to do that.I just used a skill saw to cut mine out and it shrinks pretty good.

What I like the most about mine is I took a planer and trued up the top.So now I have a nice flat surface to beat on.Also the edge of the top has a lot of different radii's that can be used as a dollys.
