Default Beautiful is not quite enough

I'll put my vote in for the square turn lights. There will be some broken necks on this one for sure. Absolutely amazing concept coming out of your brain!

OK, back to the real world. I am making adjustable striker plates for the latches. I set these up so they're very close to where they need to be including the added thickness of the skirt skin but it will not be exactly right in the end. It never works that way for me so I slotted the middle hole so it will give me about 1/2" of adjustment up and down. There's a hardened torx bolt and an aluminum sleeve where the latch jaws will contact.

I ran out of 3/16 plate so I can't make the other striker plates for a couple days so I'll continue with the skirt frame. I welded up the front support bracket with the dzus plate at the bottom corner

Next, I installed the upper frame rail and located the center line of the fender by taping a string and nut to the top of the fender at the center of the peak. Since I know the fender is plumb, this string actually represents the longitudinal center line of the buck so I can now take measurements off the buck and transfer them to the car.

Next I fabricated the bracket that will attach permanently to the car and hold the rear Dzus fastener plate. If you look closely at the string, you can see the red dot that represents the bottom of the skirt at this location lengthwise. With this simple plumb line I can locate any point in X, Y, and Z axes on the car by taking measurements from the buck and transferring them to the car. It's not high tech but it is fast and effective.

Good thinking on the slotted hole. I slot everything, just in case.

Not a very productive day today. I had some pretty tedious work to do getting the lower skirt hangers in place. They're just some 1/2" round tube brackets but they have to be in the right spots. I'll probably need to get exhaust pipes through this area and I still haven't decided what I'll do with the filler tube.
Anyway, I made some progress and as I was doing the last welds I ran out of CO2 on the welder... Great.

I thought I'd finish making the rear half of the skirt frame. I was down to the last part which was the back edge of the skirt where it will tuck in behind the leading edge of the bumper. It's 1/8 bent 3/4 angle so I needed the torch to bend it into shape. I was almost done and ran out of acetylene!! JEEEEEZUS!!... Dead in the water til tomorrow.

Most times gas runs out at the worse of times.
Last week though my mig gas ran out on the last tack of the day and the new bottle was already due to be delivered first thing in the morning!

Very cool to see someone else who believes in a plumb line- so simple and effective.

Jack
Those renderings are stunning. Very hard to get a 2 seater to look anywhere close to good with the top up(think jag 120 roadster). Yours is gorgeous.
