Giday Jack,

We don't have to cut our Cars up for scrap Metal guys here in OZ because they just back the Truck up and take the whole Car after it is stripped out for free.

CTS is gone and we're back to normal here. I have the floor tacked in and started fitting the firewall so the windshield will fit. The windshield sealing surface of the CTS firewall has a little too much curve in it in the center but first, I'm trying to get the ends to meet properly. They are in the right place now. I'll get it tacked in and start closing up the gaps next.

The lower part of the firewall had a boxed reinforcement along the front face but on the CTS, it was part of the transition into the lower frame rail. When I removed the floor and firewall I left the rail with the CTS. I didn't need it. Since the 49 has a separate frame I only need a boxed reinforcement that runs horizontally from the 49 hinge pillar across the firewall and ties into the existing section of reinforcement. It also needed to be wide enough to tie the front body mount to the firewall.

Next, I started to box in the side tying the 49 hinge pillar to the CTS fire wall. The big square opening is for the cabin air filter and to oval shaped hole is where the front body harness will pass through. Still more work to do on this side.

Man, you keep chipping away at that. What's the big picture? Seems like you're pretty close to having the fab work wrapped up?

There's still a lot of fab work left. I had to do some of this out of order because of space limitations. I still have to make the lift off roof. That should be interesting, I rarely work with aluminum. I have to make the tail light assemblies and parking lamps, gas tank, window hardware, stainless trim. The list goes on.... At that point, everything is roughed in and I'll have to go back and start the finish work on the whole car. The finish line is still pretty far away.

Driver side of the firewall is tied in to the 49 and the boxed reinforcement is tied to the front body mount. Everything is very rigid again.

I needed to make a new air box to fit around the cabin air filter. It allows air to be taken in from the cowl while allowing any water to flow through and drain out the bottom. It's almost done. I need to find the plastic cowl trim piece that attaches to the top and fit that up to see how high the box needs to be. Also need to do a little reshaping on the windshield mounting surface and I'm done here.

I want to fit the cowl air inlet pieces and the wiper motor before I reshape the windshield mating surface on the firewall. The air plenum that goes from the air cleaner box to the cowl panel needed some trimming so I got that to fit. I probably won't be able to use the CTS closure panel but I want to get to the point where I know the filter and ducting will function correctly.

Next is the wiper motor and transmission. The CTS uses a self contained assembly with a cast aluminum frame. I'd like to use it as is if I can. I have to move the assy 2" over toward the center of the 49 and tilt it to match the rake of the windshield. The drive shafts of the wipers need to be perpendicular to the surface of the windshield. If not, you will have unequal pressure on the blades against the windshield while in use.
It looks like it should be fairly easy to get them mounted where I need them.

Be good if you can use the donor wiper system. I sure wish I could have on mine!
