You are very welcome Robert.

Yep, it was an old aluminum car job, and some training on Packard surgical rusties going into chrome. Just got back, and sorta put away.

Noticed my camera image counter now shows having pic numbers in the low 7 digits. Seems like I was in the mid-sixes just a short time ago. Those gigs sure do stack up.

Extraordinarily deserved.

Kudos for all the contributions you have made here. Even more significant are all the contributions you have made elsewhere.

I was aware of your web presence way, way, back when you posted pics and procedures of your "Ferrari built from 12 photos series". https://www.tinmantech.com/html/ferrari.php It was one of my first bookmarks on my first personal computer. I shared it with my HS students.

Your contribution to air hammer technology alone is worthy of acknowledgement. One can then add in O/A aluminum welding preservation, historic research, metallurgical study....the list goes on...

Your scientific, methodical, and research-based approach to problem solving should serve as a model to us all.

As is your willingness to so openly share your hard-earned knowledge with others. By all measure, not an insignificant gesture.

You are much more than a shaper of metal.

On a personal level, thanks again for all hours of seminars at Oskosh through the years. Hope to see you again there next year...

Mark from Illinois
Thank you, Mark.
I was just talking to Plotner the other day - he was to blame for getting me going, and he knows it. He'll turn 88 soon. (He welded up that shattered engine cylinder on the twin-igniton Bugatti Royale, and was the only dual-rated Master Craftsman HAC ever designated.)

I guess working so long with so many excellent craftsmen who generously shared their knowledge with me gave me the willingness to share the wealth. I've suffered the developer's curse for a while now, and I'm deeply glad I pursued some of the odd tools and methods that have come about.

I'm very happy to have been some help to the craft.

Sometimes (more frequently than I'd like to admit) it takes me some time to get my head around what he's trying to communicate - but then there's that "ah ha" moment.

Well deserved Tinman.
Thanks, Overkill. Sometimes it takes me a while, too, when I read my own stuff the next day .... But then I go back and untangle it more. I find that if I try to make it simple, it is easier to understand. When I leave it in the complicated state, even I have trouble understanding my own grasp of it. ... And sometimes it comes up in class and by going over it enough we all get to the clear understanding. yeehaw.

Yo Mike,

I am just back from the aluminum car thing in San Antonio, after the Denver fun.

tacking nose panels
Attachment 30031

after tacking, welding complete.
Attachment 30032

I had two essential things in San Antonio this time that I had not had together at the same time in many years - my favorite flux and clean (non_airgas) acetylene.
