marking out for the bonnet opening, i make a paper template and tape that to the bonnet frame, place the scuttle panel on the car, and tape the template to the panel. draw a line with a marker pen, remove the template then lay masking tape on the sharp edge of the marker line. then using a gaping tool made from an old hacksaw blade, the two points on the blade are 5mm apart, this will be the gap between the bonnet and the car body. i scribe marks in the panel, then go over the scribe marks with a marker pen. this gives me an outline to work too.

Fantastic work Neil!

I use scratch-gauges frequently, but I never thought of using a hacksaw blade – great idea!

Cheers Charlie

Looking good Neil

Is this a 996 you are working on ? Watercooled ?

Nice to see the transition from stretched to formed. Real metal shaping !

Still a great thread to follow

no, this is the same 356 lol. I stretch the crap out of the marked area, that gives me extra metal to make the corners. I can stretch in the corners too but I dont have to stretch as much. I'm cutting that inner piece anyway so it doesn't matter what happens to it.

Richard, thank you pal, you are just as inspiring to watch!

made some dies for my reciprocating machine, after pre-stretching the centre part i rad it through the dies but stopped at the corners, i will do these by hand the old fashioned way. hammer and dolly lol

as you can see i left a little extra material in the corner so i can keep stretching that more than the part i need. cleaned up pretty well so far a quick flick over with the scotch pad roloc wheel and it'll be fine. on to the otherside lol
