Default Side Panels For 48 Anglia

Side Panel.jpg

Anglia Stretched Fender #2.jpg

I need to make two new side panels for my Anglia. I need to add metal as shown in the bottom photo because I am stretching the wheelbase. I will need to add 7" between the door jams and the fender radius. I am removing the louver at the top of the panel as there is no need for it. The left side panel is a total wreck. The right side panel I have is the top photo.

My question is how is the best way to duplicate the raised radius where the fender mates to the side panel?

I would like to make the side panel from at least 4 pieces because the door jambs have to be added back. My front end is a one piece fiberglass unit as this is a race car.

Maverick the best way to do that would be to make the side panel first,by using a paper pattern make sure to have enough material at the bottom so you can make the shape you need...so this is how it,s done....
Draw a specific line on the inside of the panel where the shape in question needs to be use a small blocking hammer and very slowly put some blows very very close together on that line, the very first thing you will notice is the lip will start to rise.... that is the way you would want it to go, at that point stop with the blocking hammer and start turning that lip with a hammer and dolly stretching that lip as you go ...this is done because if you don,t...the side panel will rise in the middle, so..... What I am saying is that you can control the shape of the side panel by turning that lip a bit and stretching it a bit ...Once the desired angle is achieved..and the right shape is obtained... mark a secondary line where that lip turns again downwards, proceed by turning again with a pair of pliers... do not try to turn it all at once
do the turning a bit of the time .You will find then that the side panel might still want to go around too much ...If that is the case simply stretch the last part of the lip again .Once that is done with a hammer and a proper shaped dolly (in this case with the right radius) finish off the radius
Peter
PS... Of coarse if you have a Pullmax.....Well that would be a lot easier because you can make a tool that does all the stretching and that shape all at once
