Default New ford truck metal

Hi anyone had any experience welding on the new ford trucks with aluminum bodies. I have a small rip to repair. Question .... what rod to use? Also any tip or tricks for welding it. I will be using tig on this.

Thank Mark

The alloy is 6061.
Use 5356 filler.
Quench with water immediately when finished welding.

Thanks Kent Is the body 6061? I was doing some checking also. Have you hear of a rod 5554? I think it was Horbart that said this is the rod for the new ford trucks. They did not mention what alloy the body was.

When they first came out, I asked some sales type at a trade show what alloy it was. They replied, "military grade". I tried to explain that 'military grade' was not an alloy but it was obvious I was wasting my time.

5554 is the recommended alloy to use if you are doing any MIG welding on the Ford bodies. If memory serves me, Ford recommends using 1.2 mm 5554 when MIG welding on their trucks.

Here is a link with some good info"
