not sure if you have covered this but what parking sensors are you using jack? i ask as the vw amarok uses chrome faced pdc sensors in the rear bar. also has sensor holders that are double sided taped to the inside of the bar. has a nice flush fit look to them.

I'm using the sensors from the CTS but the grommets won't work. I was not able to find anything that had the 60 degree angle that this bumper has. I was even willing to paint them silver if I found some that would work. The Amarok has a flat vertical surface so the grommets would be 90 degrees. If I used them on the Cadillac, they would be searching for airplanes.

Far too many contours in the mirror stands. There isn't a straight line on them anywhere. The mirror buckets are a radiused cone and sit about 10 degrees off the axis of the stand. The top of the stand tapers downward from front to rear in a compound tapered curve to match the buckets. The base of the stand is convex curved where it mounts to the body and the axis of the top and bottom surfaces of the stands are offset.
It would take far too much time to work all that out and test fit dozens of attempts. Plus they need to be strong. They need to be made of aluminum.
I don't have access to a machine shop any more so this is the best way. The foam sands down very easy and fast so I can test fit on the car in a few seconds by taking just a couple steps over to the car. Some things are just better hand made and time is becoming a factor. In August it will be 4 years on this car. I'm not getting any younger. Git er done!

Is the foam sturdy enough to put sandpaper, grit up, on the body of the car and "lap" the mirror base to a close fit?

Good idea Marc, I hadn't thought of that. After the stands are cast, I'l give that a try when I'm doing the final fitting.

I got the bumper polished. It was a couple days work but it's done. I cut the temporary brace off and the bumper sprung open, which I did expect but it moved a lot. I managed to get it to bolt to the car but I have to figure out how to rebend the curve into it without heating it. Overall, I'm satisfied with the results.

Any expert welders out there want to give me some advice? On the lower edge of this bumper I have a 1 1/2" round tube running the full length. When this was welded up, the bottom edge of the sheet was laidover the tube and welded full length. I think this is primarily what caused the bumper to spring when I released the temporary brace. Did the long bead of weld along the tubing shrink when it cooled and draw the tubing to a flatter shape than original? If so, would I be able to draw it back in by welding a bead along the tube on the back side directly opposite of the first bead?
I don't thik the top is a problem. The tube along the top edge is only 1/2". I was watching Jim when he was welding and noticed that when he was welding the top, the whole tube was going red from the heat. It may not have bent like the lower one.
I guess the simplest way to ask my question would be; Can I make a controlled bend lengthwise on a piece of tubing by welding a bead full length along the tubing?
