Yes... I clamped the panel to the plywood and then the metal on top of the panel.

I know im diggin' here, but what great work i almost did something like that...

I did the plywood, but i didnt "imagine" the piece of oak or the pattern over the metal to know were to hit so i went hammering with a ball hammer kind of guessing were to hit... i wish i had seen this a couple of months earlier

if your metal is thin enough, you can start with a rubber mallet, and it won't stretch or ding the metal in the wrong place, but will slightly emboss the top edges of the beads in the metal when it hits a hollow. so next time you do it, you can try that!
or just use your paper pattern over the steel...

Thumbs up Found your thread online and joined the forum

I was telling my dad in law a month ago that this was my plan for doing mine since no one carries NOS metal for my 1966 Olds Starfire. I happened onto your stuff today and had to join to view it. Glad to see it worked out the way I saw it in my mind. Very nice.
