Default Am I going to do this right?

This is the bottom lip on the trunk opening on my wife's 47 Chevy aerosedan. there is a c shaped section for the weatherstripping with a piece folded over it and spot welded to the trunk floor. the top piece that is folded over is the part that needs replacing.
I was thinking if I cut a strip, then put a curve with the shrinker (or stretcher?). I should then be able to put the step into it with stepping dies in the bead roller. Now for the folded edge, do I use the tipping dies (the die is not very narrow and kind of rounded) or should I hammer the fold over a sharp edge?
Am I describing it OK?

thought of another question. Since the fold will be going over the top and finishing on the underside of the flange. It might be hard to get a straight shot to hammer closed. I will be removing the bumper to gain better access. would a pair of vice-grips do an adequate job of closing the seam?

The flange your are referring to is called "rear compartment gutter weather strip retainer". It does have a fold on the rear edge aand it would appear to be folded under and crimped onto the "rear end floor pan".

However a cross section I am looking at in a Fischer body service manual shows a clear cross section of that assembly for the 1946 model. Another manual for the the 46 & 47 models shows similar construction in photos.

The "rear compartment gutter weather strip retainer" is a separate piece, spot welded in place and sealed to the rear end floor pan (trunk floor) with Body Sealer. To make the part use a straight strip and hem it over. Then shrink the forward (single thickness) edge until you get the curvature. Remove the old piece and plug weld the new part in place.

If your Fischer Body plate ID on the firewall shows a body number of 46-1007 or 47-1007 this ia a "Fleetline Aero Sedan which is a "A" type body.
