Default Track style nose

I feel like a beginner again so posted this here.
Even though I am more of a street rod kind of guy, I have always found the shape of the track nose appealing. Lots of curves to deal with.

I read somewhere that over here some guys used inverted Jag grills as a trim. I have a couple of these laying around so decided to start with that.
A very quick drawing was made off that grill to give me a shape for a simple(minimalist!) buck.

For the top piece I made a very simple paper pattern and cut it out of ally. I set about it with the hammers first. I am still doing the blocking and smoothing approach to my wheeling just now. Low crown panels will come later with more purely wheeling to get the shape.
This is where I,m at just now.

I am doing this after hours before I head home for the day. It's just hovering above freezing in Glasgow just now so this may take some time to complete! I have about two hours in it so far including cutting out the buck and polishing the grill surround.

Looks good! That Jag grill surround does have a nice look for the opening.

The grill is from a mk2 Jag. Mid 60's.
I also have a Daimler one but it has flutes at the top so is not so pleasing to the eye.

The track nose looks good so far, I like the truck, must be more rod work in Scotland than there is in the east of England.
You have not put your first name in your profile, its usual to do so on this site.

Hi David, can't see where to do that? Anyway it's Ross.

An article you did in Street Machine in the 80's hammer welding a patch in a moggy minor wing started me off gas welding. ....still can't suss the ally welding though.

Practice,practice........
